Becoming is a study in movement, balance, and transformation.
At its center, a hand-forged sterling silver spiral holds the marks of its making, its irregular edges and shifting surface deliberately left visible. Solar quartz, two tourmalines, and a freshwater pearl descend through the composition, joined by handmade links that allow each element to move and settle against the body.
The setting for the solar quartz began with an unexpected discovery at the bench: a small piece of metal from my scrap bin that fit the stone perfectly. Rather than discard its history, I incorporated it into a new setting, completing it in fine and sterling silver. That found element, likely plated brass, has been sealed with wax and remains part of the piece.
From the individually formed chain links to the settings and connections, the necklace was made by hand. It developed intuitively, one decision leading to the next, retaining the evidence of its process rather than resolving into perfect uniformity.
Becoming is one of a kind, a piece about what can emerge when materials, accidents, and intention are allowed to find their way into something new.
